SA Re-Elected to ICAO Governing Council

Africa-Press – South-Africa. South Africa has been re-elected to the governing council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), strengthening its voice in global aviation policy.

The election took place on Saturday during the ICAO general assembly in Montréal, Canada.

South Africa’s re-election to the governing council ensures the country continues to play a key role in shaping global aviation policies, representing Africa’s interests, and advancing safety, sustainability, and economic growth in the sector.

Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy has welcomed the re-election, saying it reflects international confidence in South Africa’s aviation leadership and its efforts to champion Africa’s interests on the global stage.

The country joins Egypt and Nigeria as African representatives in the council.

“Creecy said the role and leadership of the Civil Aviation Commission, which is the African Union’s specialised Civil Aviation Engineering Agency, needed to be acknowledged, as it was instrumental in placing Africa’s aviation priorities at the centre of ICAO’s agenda,” said spokesperson Collen Msibi.
