Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Western Cape Department of Mobility has confirmed that the Huguenot Tunnel has been closed after a bus caught fire due to an electrical fault.
It’s understood that all passengers were safely evacuated following Friday night’s blaze; however, one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Department spokesperson Muneera Allie said the tunnel remains closed while operational teams work to clear the scene.
“In the interim, the following alternate routes are available from Worcester to Cape Town is via Wolsely, Wellington, Paarl, to N1. From Cape Town to Worcester is via Paarl, Wolsely and to Worcester. The N2 can be accessed via Worcester and Villiersdorp. Bainskloof Pass is also currently open to light motor vehicles only.” Allie said.
