Africa-Press – South-Africa. The University of the Free State (UFS) said a policy that stipulates students with outstanding debt cannot be provisionally registered does not affect those funded by the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
In the past, students have complained that the scheme has paid registration late, but despite this, they would be enrolled once they prove they are funded.
The students have rejected the policy that also outlines that students owing the institution more than R20,000 cannot register for the 2026 academic year.
University spokesperson Lacea Loader said: “The university’s exco has extended an invitation to the student representative councils of all three campuses for continued engagement on the issues that have led to the protests.”
