Africa-Press – South-Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) Greater Tshwane elective conference has been postponed to resolve outstanding disputes and appeals in the region.
The three-day conference was set to start on Sunday, with delegates expected to elect a new leadership caucus and outline the party’s strategy ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
A group of ANC Tshwane members launched a last-minute court application, seeking to interdict the conference.
Ahead of the now postponed conference, a separate group of ANC Greater Tshwane members wrote to the party’s provincial and national leadership alleging “manipulation” of branch elections.
The group also claimed there were irregularities with memberships at the branch level.
The ANC in Gauteng ruled that the conference must be cancelled pending the finalisation of the disputes.
ANC Greater Tshwane Spokesperson, Bafuzi Yabo, commented on the situation:
“A cancellation on the part of the region comes as a, I don’t know how to call it, but it would not have saved us. It doesn’t mean we were not ready, we were prepared, logistically everything was set.”
A new date for the elective conference is yet to be announced.
