Political Parties in Tshwane Welcome Blacklisting of Sodi

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Political parties in Tshwane have unanimously welcomed a move by the municipality to blacklist controversial businessman Edwin Sodi and his affiliated companies.

The metro announced on Thursday that it made an application to National Treasury for the blacklisting of all companies and directors responsible for the disastrous R250 million tender to upgrade the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In 2019, the municipality awarded the contract to a consortium led by Sodi; however, it abandoned the site three years later with most of the work incomplete.

ActionSA national chairperson Micheal Beaumont said that the application shows the municipality is serious about holding accountable poor performing service providers.

“The people of Hammanskraal deserve justice for the suffering and costs they endured as a result of the maladministration and corruption of Sodi’s companies. Under Mayor Nasiphi Moya’s administration, water is finally being rolled out to the people who were made collateral damage in the shady dealings of the politically connected.”

Meanwhile, Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus leader Cilliers Brink said the move was long overdue.

“I have this to say for the executive mayor, she certainly responds to pressure, and we will continue to pressure her in the interest of good governance.”
