Malema Emphasizes Youth's Role in Municipal Elections

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is beginning preparations for the upcoming local government elections, with party leader Julius Malema saying only the youth can lead the organisation to victory.

Malema made the remarks during the party’s second plenum at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on Friday afternoon.

While young people under 35 make up over 60% of the total population, they are underrepresented on the voters’ roll.

Malema said if the EFF could convince the youth to participate in the elections, the party could have a strong chance of winning municipalities.

“We are nothing without the youth of South Africa. If the youth turn out on election day, we would have already won and we will win this election with the youth command leading the charge.”

Malema said the EFF’s youth command must gear up to lead the party’s campaign.

“The youth command will play an important role in the coming local government elections and must begin to build solid and verifiable election structures that will mobilise young people in all spheres of society,” he said.

“The people are willing to vote for the EFF. They are waiting to see the seriousness of the EFF. The power is in your hands,” said EFF leader Julius Malema.
