Spotlight on Andy Mothibi to rebuild confidence in NPA

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Newly appointed National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Advocate Andy Mothibi takes up office this week with a tough task ahead.

He was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa last month, replacing Shamila Batohi, who has concluded her seven-year term.

DA member of Parliament Glynnis Breytenbach highlighted the importance of addressing state capture and mobilising a team of experienced prosecutors.

“He has got to mobilise a sufficiently experienced, competent and equipped team of prosecutors, investigators and forensic experts to get one conviction in state capture.

“He also has to provide proper ethical and strong leadership from the top. The NPA is a top-down organisation.

She emphasised that Mothibi will have a challenging task ahead, working under public scrutiny.

“He has done a wonderful job at the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), he is on top of his game there, but the NPA is a much bigger organisation and a different ball game. The job in itself is much, much bigger.”
