Africa-Press – South-Africa. Police ballistics expert Captain Itumeleng Makgotloe has told the Madlanga Commission that he was kidnapped by suspicious police officers whom he suspected of being “bogus”.
Makgotloe was giving evidence before the commission on Monday, where he detailed how a Crime Intelligence officer, referred to as “Witness B”, tried to extract a ballistic report from him on the mistaken identity killing of engineer Armand Swart in 2024.
He told the commission that police officers “forcefully” took him to the Pretoria forensic laboratory to retrieve the ballistic report that he had prepared for the Vereeniging and Bramley case involving Swart, who was killed in a case of mistaken identity.
“I opened a case of kidnapping on the 8th of January 2025, which is currently being handled by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate. I stand by the fact that I was kidnapped, as I did not give the officers permission to take me anywhere, and I was forcefully taken by Witness B’s team.”
He also said he wasn’t sure whether the officers who allegedly kidnapped him were just corrupt cops or just bogus police officers.
“I’m saying they could be employed in the police service, but they could be some elements of rotten police officers, not necessarily bogus police officers.”
