Mahlobo Urges Restraint in Water System Recovery

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Deputy Minister for Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo has cautioned that low-lying areas in Midrand and Tshwane may still experience low pressure as the system remains vulnerable during the recovery phase.

Water tankers have been dispatched to affected communities with additional teams assigned to monitor pressure and prevent further infrastructure failure.

Mahlobo has urged residents to avoid hoarding water, which he says could delay full recovery.

“Please let’s not do the water hogging. When you do the water hogging. Remember the main system of the Klipfontein Reservoirs. We are pumping at the highest level in the Palmer system right now. 1.8 billion that’s what we are pumping now. But if you pump you don’t store, then it just flows through the system on the other side in terms of the absorption. The system will take a little bit longer to sufficiently have water. We want the system by tomorrow to be at 40%.”
