Africa-Press – South-Africa. Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament Dianne Kohler Barnard has informed Parliament’s police ad hoc committee that she never mishandled classified intelligence information, asserting that the details were already in the public domain.

Kohler Barnard is currently on the hot seat before the ad hoc committee to face allegations related to Crime Intelligence and the purchase of a “luxury hotel” by the unit for R23 million using a secret “slush fund.”

These proceedings follow accusations made by KZN Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who claimed Kohler Barnard shared the information and was part of a criminal syndicate.

In her affidavit, Kohler Barnard told the committee that information regarding the purchase of the Pretoria North property was already in the news.

She stated that her January 2025 statement was informed by a News24 article and a statement by Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson, which confirmed that the property was not bought through his department.

During her evidence, she told the ad hoc committee that procurement and the “slush fund” remain the primary sources of the police’s problems.

“The slush fund is a huge problem. Looking globally it’s often handled differently to the way it’s handled here. Everyone has that sort of slush fund. But certainly the handling of it has been extremely difficult.”

Kohler Barnard’s evidence continues and will be followed by fellow MP Fadiel Adams tomorrow, where he is expected to face similar allegations.
