Africa-Press – South-Africa. The development comes as the department has reached an agreement with the disgruntled operators, who have been on strike for two weeks now over non-payment.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane says striking bus operators contracted to the department have received a portion of their outstanding payments and will be paid in full by the end of this week.

He announced during a media briefing on Tuesday afternoon, following a closed engagement with stakeholders over scholar transport woes in the province.

MEC Matome Chiloane has acknowledged that the department owed the operators for November and December 2025.

Speaking to journalists, he assured that payment for December has been made and committed that the final payment to operators would be made by the end of this week.

The two-week strike has affected thousands of learners who have been left stranded because of the payment backlog.

Services are expected to resume on Monday.
