Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng has announced Kingsol Chabalala as its mayoral candidate for the embattled Emfuleni Local Municipality.
While a date for the local government elections has yet to be confirmed, they are expected to take place between November this year and January next year.
Nearly 500 registered political parties are set to contest what is shaping up to be a highly competitive race.
The municipality faces crumbling infrastructure, mounting debt to Eskom and Rand Water, ongoing sewage spills, unreliable refuse collection, and frequent violent protests by frustrated residents.
The DA said Chabalala has the leadership qualities needed to stabilise the municipality.
The party believes Chabalala can deliver clean, accountable, and effective governance – and restore dignity to communities that have endured years of decline.
