Ramaphosa's Legal Team Seeks Dismissal of Mothibi Bid

Africa-Press – South-Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa’s legal team maintains there is no valid basis for the challenge against Andy Mothibi’s appointment as the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).

The Pretoria High Court heard arguments from law firm B Xulu and Partners Incorporated on Wednesday, which believed Mothibi’s appointment was fundamentally flawed.

The firm argued that Mothibi should have undergone a public interview process conducted by the advisory panel established by the president to select the NDPP.

However, the panel concluded that none of the six interviewed candidates were suitable, prompting the president to appoint Mothibi directly.

While the law firm viewed this as irregular, the Presidency’s legal representative, Advocate Chabedi, disagreed.

“The application must be dismissed with costs, including those of counsel, because it was unnecessary and there is no reason for the matter to be before the court today.”
