Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is set to expand its workforce by adding over 800 new frontline and support service jobs.
This recruitment drive is a cornerstone of the department’s R34.47 billion budget for the current financial year.
According to the department, this budgetary allocation signals a strategic pivot from short-term crisis management toward sustainable, long-term system support.
The recruitment phase will target a wide range of medical and administrative roles to strengthen the provincial healthcare backbone:
316 Nurses
124 Doctors
80 Emergency personnel
38 Allied health professionals
278 Support staff
Beyond the immediate hiring surge, the province has committed more than R106 billion over the next three years. This investment is designed to enhance several key pillars of the healthcare system, including:
Primary healthcare and emergency services.
Disease prevention programmes.
Digital system upgrades and infrastructure development.
Health MEC Mireille Wenger said that the investment will ease pressure on facilities, support more than 33,000 healthcare workers, and improve patient care across the province.
“At the same time, we are investing in the future through prevention, better systems, and stronger community-based care, so that people can access care earlier, closer to home, and with dignity.”
