Africa-Press – South-Africa. One thousand Durban metro police officers will be deployed to join various law enforcement agencies to boost security during this Easter weekend.

The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality has finalised its safety plan for the Easter break, where it braces for an influx of holidaymakers.

Mayor Cyril Xaba said all preparations are underway.

“We have increased patrols on freeways to address jaywalking by pedestrians. There will be heightened enforcement on public transport to remove unroadworthy vehicles from the roads.”

He added that public transport will also be targeted to ensure road safety.

“This will include working with the taxi industry to conduct safety blitzes at taxi ranks to create road safety awareness among both drivers and passengers, particularly those travelling long distances.”
