Africa-Press – South-Africa. The state is expected to oppose bail in the case involving five South African drug mules arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday.
The group is expected to make their first appearance at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
However, proceedings have been delayed after the docket was brought to court without a charge sheet.
It’s believed the group was en route to China via Dubai when they were apprehended with cocaine worth an estimated R5 million.
Prosecutor Advocate Takalani Mukhumo told Eyewitness News the docket was incomplete when it was brought to court this morning and is currently being updated by police.
The five suspects, aged between 25 and 48, were arrested on Saturday at the airport.
Police say some of the cocaine packets were hidden in their private parts.
Police spokeswoman Amanda van Wyk says they have not yet established the syndicates working with the women.
“Now that we have them in custody, further investigations will lead us to the networks.”
Mukhumo says the state will formally oppose bail.
