Africa-Press – South-Africa. Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson said that he would act against officials found to have colluded with alleged building hijackers in Carletonville.

He visited a dilapidated building in the area on Friday.

The building was once a police station and now serves as a home to illegal occupants.

The premises is surrounded by seven other properties belonging to the department which have also been illegally occupied.

Overgrown grass, pieces of broken windows, open manholes, a trail of waste and an unkept building are what remains of what was once a police station.

Macpherson said that he was informed that this building had been in this condition for the last 20 years.

He said it was most concerning that the other seven properties were being rented out by illegal landlords.

“I am also deeply disturbed to hear that departmental officials may be involved in this activity particularly here, and so the DDG that a report with suspected names of individuals in our department who have been colluding with building hijackers will be sent to me as a matter of urgency.”

He said the report would be made public.
