{"id":1503,"date":"2020-12-29T19:34:13","date_gmt":"2020-12-29T19:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/south-africa\/?p=1503"},"modified":"2020-12-29T19:08:28","modified_gmt":"2020-12-29T19:08:28","slug":"cele-says-those-who-break-curfew-will-be-given-new-homes-at-police-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/cele-says-those-who-break-curfew-will-be-given-new-homes-at-police-stations","title":{"rendered":"Cele says those who break curfew will be given &#8216;new homes&#8217; at police stations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/south-africa\">South-Africa<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Cape Town \u2013 Police Minister Bheki Cele says police will not be hesitant to make arrests as the country moves to an adjusted level 3 lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>Cele was briefing the media as part of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) on Tuesday on the enforcement of the new regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said the issue of masks has been a particular concern for the police for sometime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur police have been out there making a plea that people must wear their mask which up to this point has been found to be a major preventative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are glad now that the enforcement has been heightened, we are not just going to tell you to wear your mask or remind you to wear a mask, if you don\u2019t you will definitely be arrested or fined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cele said people found to be arrested or fined will have criminal records for not wearing a mask.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want people to respect this, there will be consequences,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cele spoke about a clamp down on the distribution of alcohol during level 3 of the restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Under the regulations, alcohol sales have again been banned, to decrease the number of trauma cases in hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Cele said: \u201cAlcohol may not be sold anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether off or on consumption, the transportation of alcohol is also prohibited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no moving alcohol from point A to point B.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo putting it in your (car) boot, no taking it next door to drink it there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe alcohol must stay where it is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are only allowed to drink the alcohol you have in your house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Cele said more resources would be deployed to enforce stringent measures to ensure compliance with lockdown regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Cele was on a two-day trip as part of a \u201cSafer Festive Season\u201d inspection tour in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new regulations the curfew has now been moved to 9pm-6am.<\/p>\n<p>Cele said police will not delay to arrest should anyone be caught outside of the curfew times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe usually tell you to go home, now we will give you a new home (police station).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we see anyone vagabonding outside during 9pm-6am we will make sure you greet the magistrate and it will be a criminal offence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cele said anyone who commits this office could spend up to six months in jail.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cape Argus<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa.
