Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A Free State man has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars for beating a man to death with a knobkerrie at an initiation school.<\/p>\n

Mpho Patrick Tladi from Bluegumbosch in Qwaqwa, killed Thabang Edwin Mokotla, 25, and assaulted his twin brother, Thabiso Edward Mokotla, in December 2018.<\/p>\n

According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, the incident happened at an initiation school on Velddvrede farm in Makwane-Qwaqwa.<\/p>\n

“It was discovered that the conditions at the initiation [school were] not good, and the pair complained about it. Unfortunately, the accused attacked the twins with a knobkerrie and injured one and [the] other one [was] killed,” Mophiring said.<\/p>\n

Tladi was given 15 years for murder and three years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The sentences will run concurrently.<\/p>\n

Acting Free State police commissioner Major-General Solly Lesia welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigating officer for the “great work done, and justice served to the family of the deceased and friends”.<\/p>\n
