Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Proteas all-rounder Chloe Tryon is confident South Africa can bounce back following their first Women’s World Cup defeat against Australia on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Australian opener Meg Lanning scored an unbeaten century to steer her side to a five-wicket victory against the Proteas in Wellington.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Proteas opener Laura Wolvaardt notched her fourth consecutive half-century as she scored 90 off 134 balls.<\/p>\n

Proteas skipper Sune Luus continued her fine form with the bat as she scored 52 off 51 deliveries as South Africa posted 271\/6.<\/p>\n

In reply, Lanning smashed 135* off 130 balls to comfortably chase down 272, with the Proteas bowling attack and fielders delivering a relatively sub-par performance.<\/p>\n

‘Not the end of the world’: How big is the gap between Proteas and devastating Aussies?<\/p>\n

“I felt that we could’ve done a little bit better knowing how strong of a team they are,” Tryon told reporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“The way we batted in the first innings, we could’ve done better with the ball. A bit disappointed but we have to look forward to the next game.”<\/p>\n

The Proteas’ next assignment is against the West Indies, who will be playing their final pool World Cup encounter on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The SA women have fond memories of playing against the Windies, having won last month’s ODI series 2-1 at home.<\/p>\n

“We know what kind of a dangerous team they are, we won’t take them lightly,” said Tryon.<\/p>\n

“We have to make sure that we go back and take a few extra catches. We’ve got a quick turnaround to the West Indies game so we want to take those chances.”<\/p>\n

Tryon hinted that the Proteas would keep a closer eye on West Indies batter Deandra Dottin, who scored an unbeaten 150 against South Africa at the Wanderers in January.<\/p>\n

“When Dottin gets going, it’s kind of hard to stop her so we’ll just have to make sure that we’re on our best game,” said Tryon.<\/p>\n

“They’re also on the back foot a little bit, it’s going to be a good test for us, but we’re looking forward to it.”<\/p>\n
