Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>More than 1 000 high school pupils in Gauteng have been given a chance to develop their entrepreneurial skills with the addition of an entrepreneurship multi-certification programme as an extramural course.<\/p>\n

The programme is being run by the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg. It will reach 1 230 Grade 8 to 11 pupils at 18 schools, and a further 100 pupils remotely.<\/p>\n

Anele Davids, acting chief operations officer of the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, said:<\/p>\n

“Yet, these are seeds of businesses that may well grow, flourish, provide an income for their founders, and create jobs. The Integrated Entrepreneurship programme is designed to turn budding entrepreneurs into the business leaders of tomorrow. It’s an investment in the future,” added Davids.<\/p>\n

As part of the programme, pupils will receive hands-on experience in running their mini-companies, financial literacy and professional life skills training.<\/p>\n

“In the first phase of the Integrated Entrepreneurship programme, participants learn to set saving goals, develop a bankable business plan, apply for grants and set up their business (including essential elements, such as business registration, tax compliance and filing stewardship reports). They get hands-on with financial transacting, investing and budgeting,” the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Davids stressed the importance of young people thinking of themselves as entrepreneurs and employment creators rather than job seekers.<\/p>\n

“We see these youngsters everywhere, in all our communities: young people with latent potential who simply need formal entrepreneurial coaching to turn their talents and interests into a thriving business,” said Davids.<\/p>\n
