Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Four people have been arrested in the latest spate of gang shootings that have traumatised some communities of Cape Town.<\/p>\n

The Western Cape police said a person, allegedly associated with the Mongrels gang, had been shot and wounded in Ottery on Thursday afternoon, allegedly by the Yuru Cats.<\/p>\n

The police happened to be patrolling in the area and rushed to where members of the public were pointing.<\/p>\n

They found a 32-year-old man, allegedly affiliated with the Mongrels, had just been shot in the back. Arrangements were made to get him to a hospital while the police chased the three shooters and finally cornered them in Edward Road, Ottery.<\/p>\n

One of the three, carrying a bag, leapt over a fence and kept running, while the other two were being restrained.<\/p>\n

Police managed to apprehend the man and found three guns and ammunition in the bag.<\/p>\n

The three – aged 23, 30 and 35 – were arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition, and possession of prohibited firearms.<\/p>\n

The guns were a Z88 (a firearm made specifically for the police), a 9mm pistol, one Norinco 9mm pistol and a Star 9mm pistol, with serial numbers removed. There were 21 rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n

“The motive for this shooting incident is gang-related,” said spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, a 16-year-old, allegedly a Wonder Kids gang member, was arrested for the murder of a 32-year-old Americans affiliate in Kensington.<\/p>\n

Those arrested will appear in court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

In other operations, police arrested drug dealers and found more illegal guns.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, they also recovered a stolen Grey Ford Ranger in Bishop Lavis.<\/p>\n

And in Nyanga, they confiscated dagga they estimated at being worth R175 000. A 43-year-old was arrested.<\/p>\n
