It has, however, since paid R300 000 upfront, in order to be reconnected.<\/p>\n<p>Seven of Gauteng&#8217;s municipalities are on the brink of dysfunction &#8211; Lebogang Maile<\/p>\n<p>News24 contacted the police to understand why the centre was not paying its electricity, but was transferred to the national head office.<\/p>\n<p>Colonels Athlenda Mathe and Mavela Masondo were contacted about the matter, but didn&#8217;t respond to News24&#8217;s query.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality plans on disconnecting 323 business accounts this month to recoup around R312 million.<\/p>\n<p>Sangweni told News24 that other government departments were currently getting warning notices.<\/p>\n<p>Over 30 accounts, which owe Emfuleni more than R10 million, had already been disconnected, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Emfuleni has been classified as a dysfunctional municipality and is currently under administration.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality is also considering water restrictions for people who do not pay.<\/p>\n<p><b>ALSO READ |<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Eskom implements stage 2 loadshedding<\/p>\n<p>The municipality said the money recovered would be used to provide services.<\/p>\n<p>It also said the Emerald Resort and Casino owed R1.1 million for electricity.<\/p>\n<p>Sangweni confirmed the four-star resort was disconnected on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are running on a generator as we speak.
