Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A Grade 6 pupil has been stabbed by a fellow pupil at a Free State school. He was transported to hospital, with the knife still in his chest, where he was declared dead.<\/p>\n

Free State Department of Education spokesperson Howard Ndaba said the stabbing took place around 600m from Zama Primary School in Zastron on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

“A brawl broke out between the boys [on Wednesday] morning at the school after the suspect allegedly bullied and attempted to stab the now deceased learner with a spoon,” said Ndaba.<\/p>\n

Ndaba added:<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Peter Kareli, said a teacher transported the victim, with the “knife still stuck in his chest” to hospital.<\/p>\n

The 15-year-old child was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.<\/p>\n

According to Kareli, residents chased and arrested the 15-year-old alleged perpetrator.<\/p>\n

He has been taken into custody and charged with murder. He is expected to appear in the Zastron Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the education department has called on the school’s governing body to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n
