Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Pumas avenged their early-season defeat against the Sharks at home with a thorough 20-10 Currie Cup win at Kings Park on Friday.<\/p>\n

A powerful first-half performance that saw them score 17 points gave them the necessary buffer to hold off an erratic Sharks side whose forwards came to the party, but backs had an off-night.<\/p>\n

The win allowed the Pumas to claw back some ground from the fourth-placed Griquas, with only a point separating the sides.<\/p>\n

Devon Williams’ two tries in the ninth and 35th-minutes were not responded to by the Sharks, with only Boeta Chamberlain’s 28th-minute drop goal being the Sharks’ response in what was a turgid first stanza from the hosts.<\/p>\n

They found some momentum in the second half and crossed the whitewash through replacement Fezokuhle Mbatha’s try from a rolling maul in the 48th-minute.<\/p>\n

However, the error-strewn ways of the Sharks stayed with them for the better part of the second half and they battled to create try-scoring opportunities.<\/p>\n

A late Eddie Fouche penalty ensured the Sharks would have to fight hard just to get a losing point and even that didn’t materialise for the hosts on what was a forgettable evening.<\/p>\n

Next week, the Sharks are away to the Cheetahs while the Pumas host Western Province.<\/p>\n
