Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A man has been convicted of murdering a retired Eastern Cape police officer during a house robbery a year ago.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the Eastern Cape High Court in East London convicted German Billa of house robbery and murder.<\/p>\n

According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the retired head of the Eastern Cape police’s Operational Response Services division, Brigadier Joseph Jongile, was attacked by three men during a house robbery at his home in Bayville, East London on 14 May 2021.<\/p>\n

He died after sustaining two gunshot wounds during a struggle with the armed robbers. His wife and children were tied up and the house was ransacked, News24 previously reported.<\/p>\n

At the time, police estimated that valuables worth R80 000 were stolen during the robbery.<\/p>\n

Mgolodela said:<\/p>\n

The two other gunmen are still at large and the “Hawks are on their trail”, Mgolodela added.<\/p>\n

Billa pleaded guilty and the case was postponed to Thursday for sentencing.<\/p>\n

Jongile retired from the police service in 2014. He also served in the ANC’s armed wing, uMkhonto we Sizwe.<\/p>\n
