Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Proteas women’s trio Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus and Ayabonga Khaka will compete in the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge in India.<\/p>\n

The tournament’s fourth edition is set to be played from 23-28 May at Pune’s MCA Stadium and will coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs.<\/p>\n

The Women’s T20 Challenge will comprise of four games between three teams – the Supernovas, Trailblazers and Velocity.<\/p>\n

This will be the final three-team tournament with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) looking to expand the 2023 edition to five or six teams.<\/p>\n

“It is our mission to promote and nurture the sport we love across all formats and the Women’s T20 Challenge has always been key to that endeavour,” said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.<\/p>\n

“The continued success of the tournament both on and off the field is encouraging and gives us immense confidence that we are heading in the right direction.”<\/p>\n

The best of Indian women’s cricket will combine with some of the leading stars from South Africa, England, West Indies and Australia.<\/p>\n

A total of 12 overseas players will compete in this year’s T20 Challenge.<\/p>\n

Luus, who led South Africa to the semi-finals of the Women’s Cricket World Cup earlier this year, will represent the Supernovas this time around.<\/p>\n

The Proteas all-rounder took part in the 2020 edition, where she played for the Velocity side.<\/p>\n

Proteas fast bowler Khaka will also appear in her second T20 Challenge as she represents Velocity.<\/p>\n

Wolvaardt, who was South Africa’s best batter at the World Cup, will also feature for Velocity.<\/p>\n

All three Proteas stars featured in this past weekend’s concluding FairBreak Invitational in Dubai.<\/p>\n
