Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Parts of Soweto remained barricaded on Tuesday as residents made their way to the office of Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse.<\/p>\n

Soweto has been hit by load reductions and outages due to illegal connections, meter tampering and non-payment, according to Eskom.<\/p>\n

Residents are demanding, among others, an end to continued blackouts, and calling for Phalatse’s intervention.<\/p>\n

They gathered at Maponya Mall, where buses and taxis were waiting to ferry them to Phalatse’s office.<\/p>\n

Community leader, Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini, also known as Mohlauli, addressed the media on their demands.<\/p>\n

He called on Phalatse to attend to their demands around electricity, crime and improved services.<\/p>\n

He said:<\/p>\n

Dlamini added that Phalatse should lead the community.<\/p>\n

“She is the first citizen and mother of the city. She needs to start acting like it. She needs to understand the communities’ demands.<\/p>\n

“I visit communities daily and hear their complaints…Coalition partners must give answers to why we live like this in Soweto,” Dlamini said.<\/p>\n
