Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A Soweto police administration clerk has been arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe a recruitment officer to favour her children’s applications for a new trainee recruitment drive.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the clerk, from Jabulani police station, reportedly tried to bribe a recruitment officer based at the Gauteng police head office. Thursday was the closing date for submissions for the Basic Development Learnership Programme.<\/p>\n

The woman allegedly walked into the recruitment offices and handed over an envelope containing the applications to the recruitment officer, said police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili.<\/p>\n

Muridili said:<\/p>\n

Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, said the province was starting to see positive results from the implementation of an internal anti-corruption strategy.<\/p>\n

“It is disheartening that one of our own has tried to bribe a recruitment officer. However, I am also pleased that our efforts to fight corruption within our ranks is paying off,” said Mawela.<\/p>\n

“We are appealing to the public and potential recruits that have knowledge of recruitment corruption to come forward with any information. No payment is required to be eligible for employment in the SAPS,” Muridili said.<\/p>\n
