Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The sister of a KwaZulu-Natal police officer who was shot and killed in her home earlier this year has been arrested in connection with her sibling’s murder.<\/p>\n

Earlier investigations led to the arrest of the shooter, Siyabulela Mbhele, 24, in July.<\/p>\n

Following Mbhele’s arrest for the murder of Sergeant Nokuthula Somani, her 42-year-old sister Bongeka Somani was also arrested and remains in police custody.<\/p>\n

She is expected to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate\u2019s Court on 7 September.<\/p>\n

The KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Mbhele to 22 years for the murder of 55-year-old Somani, who was killed in Umzimkhulu in April.<\/p>\n

Somani, who was stationed at Umzimkhulu police station, was off duty when she was killed.<\/p>\n

It is alleged that she was sitting in her lounge when two people entered the house and shot her multiple times.<\/p>\n

“The suspects fled the scene on foot and she died at the scene,” Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

A case of murder was reported at the Ibisi police station and the Hawks opened an investigation.<\/p>\n
