Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>With the hype around the SA20 T20 competition gaining pace, the Joburg Super Kings have announced former Proteas all-rounder Albie Morkel as their assistant coach.<\/p>\n

The Super Kings will be captained by Faf du Plessis, with former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming in the head coach position.<\/p>\n

Morkel, who played for the Super Kings franchise in the IPL, won fame across the cricketing world as a belligerent hitter and handy bowler.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old played a single Test match for South Africa but was a regular in the shorter format of the game.<\/p>\n

Morkel played 58 ODIs for the Proteas, scoring 782 runs at an average of 23.69 and a strike rate of 100.25 while also taking 50 wickets.<\/p>\n

In the T20 format, he represented South Africa on 50 occasions, scoring 572 runs at an impressive strike rate of 142.28 and taking 26 wickets.<\/p>\n

While the player auction for the SA20 takes place in September, the Super Kings have announced several players that are already part of their squad, including Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, Romario Shepherd and Gerald Coetzee.<\/p>\n
