Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A convicted armed robber has appeared in court in connection with the murder of a Gauteng police officer.<\/p>\n

Akim Phathisani Masuku, 33, appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after the Hawks linked him to the murder of Constable Tshifhiwa Evans Manyuwa, 39, said Hawks spokesperson, Captain Lloyd Ramovha.<\/p>\n

Masuku was also linked to the attempted murder of Constable Tsoyi Frans Manyane, 48, Ramovha added.<\/p>\n

The two officers were attacked in Ivory Park on 2 April 2016.<\/p>\n

“The police officials, who were attached to the Ivory Park police station crime office, were on duty on the fateful day. They were driving an unmarked vehicle when they came across a group of people reportedly obstructing the road,” said Ramovha.<\/p>\n

He added:<\/p>\n

Manyane was injured, and both officers were robbed of their service pistols.<\/p>\n

Masuku was arrested in November 2016 after he was allegedly found with Manyuwa’s firearm.<\/p>\n

He was then linked to several violent house robberies and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in August 2017.<\/p>\n

Masuku was recently brought from a Limpopo correctional facility to Gauteng to face charges for the murder and attempted murder of Manyuwa and Manyane.<\/p>\n

The case has been postponed to 5 October, and will be transferred to the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
