Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A Limpopo traffic officer who was convicted of corruption and sentenced in 2019, will start serving her sentence after losing her appeal.<\/p>\n

Portia Motsatsi Ramphelo, 37, who was stationed in Tzaneen, was arrested for accepting and demanding bribes from motorists who were found to have broken road rules.<\/p>\n

The bribes ranged from R150 to R2 000.<\/p>\n

Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said after a thorough investigation, Ramphelo and 12 other traffic officers in Tzaneen were arrested in December 2017.<\/p>\n

He said Ramphelo was convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on 15 August 2019, which she appealed.<\/p>\n

According to Maluleke, the court dismissed Ramphelo’s appeal against her sentence on 1 September.<\/p>\n

He said the court ordered Ramphelo to start serving her two-year jail term, but she was given three days to prepare herself.<\/p>\n
