Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>After violent protests over student accommodation allowances on the University of Limpopo campus last week, the institution has raised funds for students who rely on financial aid.<\/p>\n

University spokesperson Johannes Selepe said the institution held a meeting with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) last Friday “to discuss how the scheme could expedite the payment of off-campus allowances for students”.<\/p>\n

While waiting for a solution, he added, the university raised funds to pay “enabling students to continue with their academic activities as scheduled”.<\/p>\n

Selepe said the university would pay students according to the following categories:<\/p>\n

“A total of 11 929 students received allowances, including 1 458 students who live in their respective homes on a full-time basis for the 2022 academic year.<\/p>\n

“About 567 students did not receive their allowances, due to different reasons, including outdated banking details and funding approval challenges which are still being investigated with NSFAS. SMS communication has been sent to students whose appeals were rejected by NSFAS because of various reasons.”<\/p>\n

Selepe added that students needed to update their banking details and submit any outstanding documentation so that their funds could be processed.<\/p>\n
