Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) says it supports an investigation into allegations that two City Press reporters breached editorial ethical codes and the Press Code.<\/p>\n

TimesLIVE earlier reported that the two journalists were suspended after allegedly trying to extort money from a person they were writing a story about.<\/p>\n

The details of the story they were working on have not been made public as yet.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Ishmet Davidson, chief executive officer of Media24 \u2013 City Press’ parent company \u2013 confirmed the suspensions and that a process had been initiated to establish the veracity of the claims against the reporters.<\/p>\n

The journalists were suspended at the beginning of the month.<\/p>\n

Sanef said:<\/p>\n

“Journalists are crusaders for accountability. It, therefore, follows that they too should be subject to the same accountability that they demand of those who exercise power in society.”<\/p>\n

Sanef said it was “encouraged by Davidson’s avowed commitment to ensure a speedy investigation” and called for transparency over the investigation’s findings.<\/p>\n
