Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Two people have been arrested and two others are still at large after a North West farmer was robbed and murdered on a farm in Modderfontein, near Rustenburg on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Ad\u00e9le Myburgh, Frans Venter, 68, was home with his gardener and domestic worker when four men broke in. The men overpowered the gardener and domestic worker and tied them up using cables.<\/p>\n

“The suspects… gained entry to the house and overpowered Venter. He was severely assaulted and stabbed to death. Numerous items were [stolen] by the suspects, who fled the scene on foot. One of the workers managed to escape and ran to a neighbour for help,” added Myburgh.<\/p>\n

Neighbouring farmers and the police were alerted of the incident, and a search was launched for the murderers.<\/p>\n

Myburgh said the first suspect was spotted and arrested by a security officer and handed over to the police.<\/p>\n

She added:<\/p>\n

“Both suspects, who are believed to be in their late 20s, will appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 23 September, on charges of murder and house robbery. Two other suspects are still at large.”<\/p>\n

Myburgh said pangas and knives were found at the scene. She added that Venter was attacked brutally.<\/p>\n

North West police commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked farmers and security companies in the area for their assistance, which led to the arrests of Venter’s alleged murderers.<\/p>\n

Sello said police would not be able to solve the crime without the assistance of the community.<\/p>\n
