Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The basic education department in North West will make provision for 16 pupils who could not write their Life Science paper 2 preliminary exam due to service delivery protests.<\/p>\n

Spokesperson Elias Malinda told News24 that Langa La Sembo High School in the Moses Kotane district suspended examinations when striking residents barred it from operating on Thursday.<\/p>\n

“The civil unrest seems to have eased for now, and the school will decide upon spring break reopening on when to administer a paper of the same weight for its candidates,” he said.<\/p>\n

Provincial education MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela said five areas were affected by protests. As a result, pupils wrote their exams “under stressful conditions”.<\/p>\n

Matsemela condemned the demonstrations, saying protesters had stalled the children’s futures by disrupting their exams.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to thank learners for their relentless efforts in not letting external circumstances determine their future. To our teachers who held the fort to ensure examinations continue regardless of these issues, I am truly gratified, and to parents who ensured their children’s education matter, we thank you,” said the MEC.<\/p>\n
