Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Wallacedene health clinic had to close its doors on Tuesday due to ongoing electricity supply issues, leaving hundreds of chronically ill patients without treatment.<\/p>\n

In the midst of Eskom outages the back-up generator at the clinic also broke down on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to a reliable source between 200 and 300 chronic care patients visit this clinic on a daily basis along with mothers and babies as well as the elderly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout electricity we cannot access patient records and it is very dark inside the building making it impossible to treat patients,\u201d says one healthcare worker who wants to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n

According to a reliable source the generator has been faulty for about two months.<\/p>\n

Rob Bisset chair of the Kraaifontein CPF says this situation shows a lack of concern from the side of local government.<\/p>\n

Mayco member for health and community services Patricia van der Ross says the City is working hard to resolve the electricity issues at the clinic.<\/p>\n

\u201cCity Health is in talks with Eskom as well as the City\u2019s asset and facility management department and the electricity generation and distribution department, to ascertain how long it will likely take for them to address the cause of the electricity disruption, which is said to be linked to a severely vandalised substation,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile City Health does have a generator on site, this too is currently undergoing maintenance and repairs. In the interim, clients are being advised to visit their nearest alternative health facility. Options available include the Bloekombos, Brighton, Brackenfell or Northpine Clinics. Clients on HPT and ARVs are requested to report to Bloekombos Clinic to access these services.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van der Ross reassures the public that this matter is receiving urgent attention, to allow the clinic operations to resume as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
