Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A suspected drug lord in Tshwane, who is facing murder and attempted murder charges, will remain in custody after being denied bail, as he may be a danger to witnesses.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old Kishen Pillay appeared in the Atteridgeville Magistrate\u2019s Court on Monday where he was refused bail, as he failed to provide evidence that exceptional circumstances existed for him to be released from custody.<\/p>\n

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the court also found that if released, Pillay may be a danger to the witnesses, their families, and the community.<\/p>\n

Pillay handed himself over to police on 20 September this year and has been in custody ever since.<\/p>\n

NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said Pillay was facing one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder.<\/p>\n

“It is alleged that on 11 September 2022, Pillay had an altercation with one of the victims in the matter. Pillay allegedly assaulted the victim, who later told his friends what happened. It is alleged that Pillay shot Tshilidzi Madiba, 30, and was declared dead a few hours after arriving at the hospital,” she said.<\/p>\n

Mahanjana added that Pillay was an alleged drug lord in the Lotus Gardens area.<\/p>\n

While applying for bail, the court heard that Pillay also had another case of murder pending in the Brits Magistrate’s Court.<\/p>\n

“It was also put on record that, before this incident, the police had confiscated his licenced firearm and drugs, which are still being analysed at the lab.”<\/p>\n
