Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A Limpopo man has been handed two life sentences for murdering his girlfriend and her two-year-old son in their bed.<\/p>\n

He reportedly slept next to the victims’ bodies before fleeing the scene the next day.<\/p>\n

David Matjila, 45, was sentenced in the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane for the murders, which took place in August 2021.<\/p>\n

The court heard that Matjila arrived at Apiesdoring in Burgersfort while his girlfriend, Farina Mahlake, 34, and her son, Kgoitsione, were asleep at home.<\/p>\n

“The accused stabbed the mother and child several times with a knife, killing them instantly. He then covered the deceased with a blanket and slept next to them.<\/p>\n

“The following day, the accused fled the scene after a concerned resident alerted the police,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi.<\/p>\n

Matjila was arrested later that day in a taxi travelling to Hammanskraal in Gauteng.<\/p>\n

Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, lauded the investigating officer, Sergeant Thelma Mokwena, and others who helped to ensure Matjila’s conviction.<\/p>\n
