Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Police in the Western Cape had their hands full this weekend after clamping down on a range of crime incidents in the province.<\/p>\n

Crime Intelligence and the Anti-Gang Unit confiscated drugs with a street value of R750 000 in Worcester on Friday.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said an adult woman has since been arrested for possession of drugs.<\/p>\n

“The members received information of drugs at the premises and searched it. During the search, 16 000 mandrax tablets [were found]. Once charged she will appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court,” said Twigg.<\/p>\n

Members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in Hanover Park to restore order in the area due to the ongoing gang violence, arrested a 23-year-old man in Etosha Court in the early hours of Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

The suspect was in possession of a .38 Special revolver.<\/p>\n

“The members were busy with crime prevention operations when they stopped and searched the suspect and found the firearm in his possession. The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court on Monday,” Twigg added.<\/p>\n

In an unrelated matter members of the Breede River K9 Unit arrested two women for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in De Doorns on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Western Cape detectives said last week that they arrested 442 wanted suspects during tracing operation on charges related to murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, burglary, and sexual offences.<\/p>\n

“The police management in the [province] thanked the members for their vigilance and hard work, especially with the festive season that is dawning upon us,” said Twigg.<\/p>\n
