Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Roodepoort Regional Court this week sentenced convict John Leonard du Plooy to an additional life sentence for murder and 15 years for aggravated robbery.<\/p>\n

The sentence emanates from police investigations into the murders of four women in nursing homes in Gauteng and Mpumalanga between 2018 and 2019. The women were robbed of their jewellery and strangled.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said that Du Plooy, 32, was already serving two life terms and 30 years for murder and aggravated robbery cases committed in June and September 2018.<\/p>\n

He will now serve three life sentences for murder and 45 years for aggravated robbery.<\/p>\n

Sekgotodi says the charges related to the Mpumalanga case were withdrawn.<\/p>\n

Du Plooy’s co-accused Shaun Oosthuizen, 42, was sentenced to four direct life sentences and 80 years by the Pretoria Regional Court on 16 May.<\/p>\n

The Hawks’ Major General Zodwa Mokoena commended law enforcement for securing the additional convictions.<\/p>\n

“We appreciate the collaboration between the investigators and judiciary for ensuring that the heartless criminals who tormented the elderly who could not defend themselves are removed from the community,” said Mokoena.<\/p>\n
