Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A BMW fitted with blue lights driving recklessly has led police to an alleged stolen Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) car.<\/p>\n

According to the JMPD, the car \u2013 with two occupants \u2013 was driving on Koma Street in Soweto on Saturday when officers spotted it.<\/p>\n

One of the occupants was wearing a JMPD director’s combat cap. When questioned, they could not produce appointment cards that would identify them as JMPD officers.<\/p>\n

The driver also didn’t have a licence, and both occupants were allegedly drinking in the car.<\/p>\n

“The registration number was [investigated], and it did not come out as a police vehicle, so the K9 Unit members decided to investigate what was going on with the vehicle,” the JMPD said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The car was registered with a rental company, and it was later discovered that it was a patrol car from the JMPD head office.<\/p>\n

“The suspects were questioned as to how they acquired the vehicle, and they alleged that it was given to them by a JMPD employee. However, a case of theft of a motor vehicle was opened and registered at Protea Glen by the alleged JMPD officer,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

The car’s occupants were arrested and charged with impersonating police officers and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. They will appear in court soon.<\/p>\n
