Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Department of Basic Education has decided to exclude the infamous Question 5.1 from matric Mathematics Paper 2 marking, after pupils reported that it was impossible to solve.<\/p>\n

The question was “found to be faulty”, according to spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga, so the department decided that the paper would be marked out of 143 before it is “upscaled to 150”.<\/p>\n

The department is preparing to wrap up the exams for the Class of 2022.<\/p>\n

This week, some papers will be rewritten.<\/p>\n

“During the writing of the examinations, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) received reports requesting that some candidates be granted permission to rewrite examinations in selected subjects. Various reasons were provided to substantiate these requests,” said Mhlanga.<\/p>\n

Among those who missed examinations are candidates who experienced technical glitches while writing Computer Applications Technology Paper 1, and Information Technology Paper 1 due to load shedding.<\/p>\n

Among the pupils who will rewrite their exams are 1 127 candidates from seven schools in Witbank, Mpumalanga who were affected by community protests.<\/p>\n

Two pregnant pupils from the Western Cape and Limpopo were unable to write English Paper 1, three pupils from the North West missed Mathematical Literacy Paper 2 due to floods, and four pupils from the Eastern Cape missed Mathematical Literacy Papers 1 and 2 “due to the principal’s actions”.<\/p>\n

Marking will start on Saturday, 10 December, and run until Thursday, 22 December. The scripts are in storage and will be moved to marking centres this week, according to Mhlanga.<\/p>\n
