Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The South African Communist Party (SACP) and the family of slain stalwart, Chris Hani, plan to approach the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights over the placing of Janusz Walus on parole.<\/p>\n

Walus was placed on parole on 21 November 2022 and on Friday, the Constitutional Court dismissed efforts by Hani\u2019s widow, Limpho, and the SACP to persuade it to reconsider ordering the release of Walus.<\/p>\n

Both the SACP and the Hani family said they were disappointed with the court’s decision to dismiss their application. They want the court to reconsider and rescind its judgment which placed Walus on parole.<\/p>\n

In a three-page ruling, the apex court said it had “concluded that the application should be dismissed because the applicants failed to make out a case for rescission reconsideration”.<\/p>\n

The court argued that there was much overlap between the submissions of the Minister [of Correctional Services Ronald Lamola in regards to Walus’ parole] and those of the applicants [Limpho Hani and the SACP], and these were adequately considered.<\/p>\n

“The South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Hani family are deeply disappointed by the decision of the Constitutional Court dismissing our application for its reconsideration and rescission of its judgment handed down on 21 November 2022,” the SACP and the Hani family said.<\/p>\n

Responding to the judgement, the SACP and the Hani family said:<\/p>\n

They said they were also continuing with the 135-day programme of mass mobilisation they have adopted together with their alliance partners, the ANC and COSATU, supported by a wide array of associated and other organisations.<\/p>\n

“This programme will culminate in the 30th anniversary commemorating Chris Hani’s assassination. We will evaluate progress at that time and consider the way forward,” they said in a statement.<\/p>\n
