Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Two people have been arrested in two separate child abuse cases involving toddlers, aged 1 and 2.<\/p>\n

In the one incident, a woman from George in the Western Cape was arrested for allegedly abusing her 2-year-old relative who was left in her care on 27 December in Rosedale, near Pacaltsdorp in George.<\/p>\n

When the child’s mother collected him, she noticed “injuries to his face”, police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies said.<\/p>\n

The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment and the police were contacted. Among the injuries to his face, they found an open wound and bruises around his eyes.<\/p>\n

Spies said, “Detectives attached to the George Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit arrested the suspect, the mother’s relative, on Thursday, 29 December, on a charge of child abuse. The suspect remains in police custody.”<\/p>\n

She is expected to make her first appearance in the George Magistrate’s Court later on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

In the second case, the Oudtshoorn FCS Unit arrested a 31-year-old man on Boxing Day on charges of child abuse and assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm.<\/p>\n

He allegedly assaulted a 1-year-old boy on Christmas Eve in Bridgeton, Oudtshoorn.<\/p>\n

“A video of the incident has been shared on various social media platforms. The public is also urged to refrain from circulating the video in the interest of protecting the identity of the victim,” Spies said.<\/p>\n

The man appeared in court and the case was postponed to Wednesday for further investigation.<\/p>\n

He is in custody.<\/p>\n
