Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Gauteng health department says vaccinations for measles are available for children between 6 months and 15 years, amid rising infections in the province.<\/p>\n

The province has 15 laboratory confirmed cases, with the latest case being reported in Tembisa last week.<\/p>\n

Ekurhuleni has eight infections, followed by Tshwane district with four, Johannesburg district with two, and West Rand with one confirmed case. No cases have been reported in Sedibeng.<\/p>\n

The department will also roll out vaccinations to early childhood centres (ECDs) and schools where parents must sign consent for immunisation.<\/p>\n

The department has administered vaccinations to 43 000 children through its health facilities.<\/p>\n

Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko said:<\/p>\n

Adults who have not had the disease or haven’t been vaccinated can also get infected with measles.<\/p>\n

Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, and a sore throat.<\/p>\n

Measles spreads by contact with saliva or mucus droplets from the mouth or nose of an infected person when they sneeze or cough.<\/p>\n
