Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A Gauteng pupil achieved 15 distinctions in the 2022 matric exams, becoming one of the most decorated pupils.<\/p>\n

Luke Andrews from Cornwall Hill College in Pretoria brought home outstanding results in the 2022 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams.<\/p>\n

The IEB matric cohort managed to obtain an impressive 98.42% pass rate, slightly higher than last year’s 98.39%.<\/p>\n

Andrews has a string of achievements behind his name, and a multitude of distinctions is just one of them.<\/p>\n

In addition to being a Dux scholar and recipient of the Servant Leadership trophy, he achieved Honours Awards across nine disciplines spanning academic, cultural and service spheres.<\/p>\n

He is also the only pupil in the school’s history to have been re-awarded the Renaissance Award \u2013 the highest honour a student can achieve at the school.<\/p>\n

Andrews won various international science fairs and robotics competitions, with his first win at the age of 12.<\/p>\n

Most recently, he received the Yale Science and Engineering Association Award for the Most Outstanding Exhibit in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at the 2022 XXIII Exporecerca Jove International Science Fair in Barcelona, Spain for his novel optical surface tracking solution for autonomous navigation.<\/p>\n

Andrews is one of only 55 high school pupils worldwide to be selected for the prestigious 2022 World Science Scholars programme.<\/p>\n

He has received the University of Pretoria’s vice-chancellor’s award and the Allan Gray Fellowship.<\/p>\n

He is looking forward to pursuing a career in engineering and robotics.<\/p>\n

Andrews is also committed to giving back and played a pivotal role in leading his Cornwall Hill College Class of 2022 in donating over five tons of food and clothing to Ditshego House of Laughter earlier this year.<\/p>\n

When asked to share his secret to success, he said: “Find what you are excited and passionate about, then challenge yourself in those spaces. Believe that the impossible is possible.”<\/p>\n
