Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Western Cape police have arrested a 19-year-old for the rape and assault of a 75-year-old woman who was known to him in Riversdale.<\/p>\n

Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies, said the teen was charged with rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.<\/p>\n

Spies said investigations revealed that the 75-year-old woman was at home on Sunday when an intruder entered her flat.<\/p>\n

“He allegedly assaulted the victim before he forced himself onto her and later violated her before he fled the scene. The victim managed to raise the alarm, and neighbours responded [and] alerted police,” Spies said.<\/p>\n

She was taken to a hospital.<\/p>\n

A search team was immediately assembled and searched for the attacker.<\/p>\n

“The 19-year-old was arrested and remains in police custody. He is expected to make his first court appearance in the Riversdale Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges,” Spies said.<\/p>\n

Western Cape police management commended officers for their swift response.<\/p>\n
