{"id":43805,"date":"2023-02-01T17:29:30","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T17:29:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/former-parole-board-chair-gets-an-effective-4-years-behind-bars-for-fraud"},"modified":"2023-02-01T18:19:54","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T18:19:54","slug":"former-parole-board-chair-gets-an-effective-4-years-behind-bars-for-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/former-parole-board-chair-gets-an-effective-4-years-behind-bars-for-fraud","title":{"rendered":"Former parole board chair gets an effective 4 years behind bars for fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Kroonstad Regional Court sentenced former chairperson of the Free State Parole Board, David Litsoane, to an effective four years behind bars on Tuesday for fraud and defeating the ends of justice.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo said the case stemmed from an incident that took place between February and May 2015, when Litsoane was the chairperson of the parole board at Groenpunt Correctional Services.<\/p>\n<p>According to Singo, Litsoane submitted a fraudulent statement to mislead a judge to issue a conversion of sentence to a prisoner who was serving a 22-year sentence for multiple charges of fraud involving R19 million.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sentenced prisoner did not qualify to be released on parole or to have his sentence converted. The matter was then reported to the Hawks&#8217; Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein,&#8221; Singo added.<\/p>\n<p>Litsoane was issued with a summons on 30 July 2020 and appeared in court on several occasions until his recent conviction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The court sentenced Litsoane to seven years imprisonment, of which three years were suspended.
